City of Berwyn Press Release- July 26,2010: Extreme Weather Related Flooding! In response to the storm events that affected Berwyn in the past few weeks, the City of Berwyn has initiated a comprehensive multi-departmental and multi-agency response to address the damage and needs of our citizens as a result of the two storms that occurred on June 23, 2010 and July 23 and 24, 2010. As a part of this response, the City of Berwyn has initiated the process to declare the City of Berwyn a disaster area. This is a multi-step process through the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and possibly the Federal Emergency Management Agency(FEMA) to attempt to recover monies resulting from property damaged associated with one or both of the storms. Part of the documentation process requires the City of Berwyn to obtain some initial information from its affected residents and businesses for the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. The Mayor's office, in conjunction with the Berwyn Police Department, are taking a number of steps to assure that every citizen has the opportunity to complete the appropriate paperwork that would potentially qualify them for future reimbursements. Although the completion of these forms are a requirement set forth by the county, state, and federal government, their completion does not guarantee future disbursements. The City of Berwyn's main focus is to assist its citizens with the application process and any subsequent follow ups. Information pertaining to flooding related damages is due to the CITY OF BERWYN by 8 pm on MONDAY, August 2nd, 2010. In order to assist the residents of Berwyn with this process, the following mechanisms have been initiated and deployed: - The City of Berwyn Flood Damage Help Center is located in the Berwyn Police Department at 6401 W. 31st St. It will be open from 8am- 8pm, (7) seven days a week, up to and including Monday, August 2,2010, to assist with the collection of information and answering of questions. Help Center staff can be reached at 708 795-2183.
- Berwyn Police Auxiliary Officers will be posted at the three (3) Berwyn Metra Stations between the hours of 6AM to 9AM and 4PM to 6PM on weekdays up until August 2nd, 2010 to hand out information and answer any questions.
- A citywide mailing will be delivered to each household within Berwyn to inform homeowners or renters of potential assistance available to them.
- Berwyn Police Auxiliary Officers will be deployed to targeted areas in the city where higher damage rates have been identified.
- A mobile command post, which will contain the appropriate storm related information and paperwork for citizens, will be stationed in the 6500 block of Ogden Ave on Saturday, July 31st and Sunday, August 1st between the hours of 10AM and 8PM.

The Democratic Citizens of Berwyn (DCOB) is the official Democratic Party of the City of Berwyn. It was founded in 2005 by Robert J. Lovero with a dual mission: To provide services to Berwyn residents, and to support candidates for public office who embody the organization’s deep-rooted principles of honesty, integrity and community. Just four years ago, the DCOB was nothing but a group of hard-working, civic-minded residents with a vision for the City that they love. Today, the organization lends its’ resources to a wide variety of service groups in Berwyn. In addition, the DCOB supports a full slate of candidates for City and Township election. To do this, an independent committee collects resumes and letters of intent through a fair and open process. The committee conducts interviews and invites the most qualified, dedicated and principled applicants to join their slate. Each year since its’ founding, the Democratic Citizens of Berwyn has grown. This year’s annual I Love Berwyn fundraiser was attended by almost 400 people whose contributions support community service efforts throughout the City, and allow our candidates to better communicate with residents. We are proud of our organization, and the work our members do in this community. But the more diverse and active we are, the better we will be. So come share your vision with us at our monthly meeting. Our door is always open, please contact us anytime for more information or to get involved! DCOB headquarters is located at 2140 S. Oak Park Avenue Berwyn, IL 60402 tel 708-484-8630. |
